SIPA- Palms Thai
Last Tuesday, I enjoyed a nice tour of SIPA and a thai dinner afterwards with Tuesday’s CIRCLE group. Usually, I would be attending Wednesday’s session but last week something came up. Thank you Tuesday for welcoming me in and allowing me to still mesh with the group. It was great to see a community center that helps out their target audience on the daily basis. Wish I could’ve seen their Haunted House Maze and the kids around, but hoping to come back sometime and help out.
Received my food last out of everyone, but the duck and sauce made it delicious!!! Thank you CIRCLE, I’m really enjoying my time! Looking forward to this week’s session and then retreat soon!!! <3 ALSO WEDNESDAY I MISS YOU!!!!
My Asian American Hero- A Community Youth Leader
I define heroes as people whose actions not only make differences happen but also those who positively affect the lives of others. Growing up in the Bay Area, it was a community that had a diverse group of people with individuals of many ethnicities. The Asian American community was quite prominent with activities such as festivals and parades to health fairs and cultural dances. I grew up attending many of these events and saw several influential individuals I felt was leading our community. Specifically, when I joined my Vietnamese Girl Scout Troop, I saw one person who stood out from the rest and demonstrated to me a model citizen.
She’s my Asian American Hero because she took the time and energy every week to teach the young scouts how to become better people. In a time when we are much influenced by technology and the western lifestyles, she integrated these aspects into our Asian culture. For instance, at cultural nights we would have different performances, such as modern dances, bi-lingual plays, and of course the more traditional dances. Thus, connecting our roots to our present and allowing us to become better Asian Americans. She taught us to care for each other and the issues that were significant to our people. So many of us grew up having an identity crisis as we tried to find the balance between the Americanized life we learned in school and the more traditional Asian one our parents were trying to teach us at home. No matter how difficult and confused the journey has been, she has always guided us with a caring presence telling us that we do not need to lose one identity for another. Instead we need to embrace all these aspects of our identity and decide for ourselves what being Asian American means. I hope to grow up and follow a similar path of helping the Asian American youth through activities such as scouting. I am very proud to be Asian American and I have her to thank for a large portion of that. Thank you, I appreciate everything you have done for us.

It’s sunday…
Sigh this will be a short post because I’m finishing my cereal and then starting APUSH… but anyway my right leg HURTS!!! I mean not that badly but still its like ouchy!!! This is probably and most likely because of brutally playing broomball yesterday and tried to kick some butts but was unsuccessful in winning, but I did succeed to prove my point of “Don’t mess with me, just don’t even think about it!”. I mean really it was tough out there but I tried my best and managed to subdue fear in some eyes, and of course I was knocked over way more than once by some people… *cough cough* Max… and then taunted by StePHEN!!!! but i guess im the provoking type so I should have expected it, but still it was fun and today it hurt way too much to get out of bed and as for being short and sweet, none of my posts will ever be shorter than a full paragraph. Now Sunday is going to end and school will start and ruin our lives… sigh have fun Second-Semester Seniors and looking forward to a fresh new start!
2010! <3 xoxo
